Gray obviously favors Kobe over Shaq and Phil.He can speak in this way now because Kobe is no longer here and he(Kobe)won't get any negative blowback. If Shaq and Phil respond,it'll look bad on them because Kobe's gone. For me,Gray has always been a shifty, suspect one.

It's funny how so many people are just now beginning to see the real Shaq. He knew what he had in Kobe, but didn't want to share the throne. When your ego makes a claim, but your actions don't back it up, at best you'll underachieve and at worst you'll fail. Damn shame Shaq didn't have a better mindset. He would have been the GOAT, even with his poor free throw %.

Kobe and Shaq were both alphas but the difference was that Shaq was also very outgoing and more of an extrovert. Kobe was the complete opposite. He was very much to himself and a natural introvert. So you can see how Shaq had the advantage. The stronger and larger than life personalities always over shadow the shy and quiet ones. And it's a double edged sword because it helps to sway public opinion towards the bigger personality. Shaq did a great job of being funny which helped people like him more than Kobe who was always viewed as more of a serious person which hurt his public image. God rest his soul though. #8 #24 forever

Curly Que

For 3 straight years, Shaq was basically Wilt Chamberlain. He was always great even before and after the 3-peat, but he literally was the most dominant center of all time for those 3 years. If he didn't rehab on company time, and stayed in shape he would have been greater than Jordan, and Kareem. He is a top 10 player even though he didn't take his job seriously all the time. That never happens in the NBA unless you are very talented, and naturally gifted. The guy had the 2nd greatest 2 guard to ever play on his team, and he couldn't handle that Kobe was demanding and outworked Shaq by far. Jealousy is a hell of a thing.

Im neither a Shaq or Kobe fan, but Shaq cost the Lakers a MINIMUM of 2 extra chips. He didn't take his job seriously, often out of shape, never improved on his free throw shooting. He is probably one of the most insecure persons walking this earth. He should've embraced Kobe. I didn't like Kobe trying to imitate MJs every mannerisms....real nerdy...and when he said " I should've paid her off like Shaq" regarding his alleged rape case. But I respect how he honored the game and didn't cheat himself or the fans.Shaq STILL mad he got body slammed by Barkley and STILL wants to get at Chuck ( at 57 yo) any chance he gets.Shaq you got SLAMMED and Barkley threw the ball off your head like And 1.

To put it plainly if Shaq had stayed in shape and Kobe had passed the ball, they'd have eight rings. To put it in more detail theKobe-Shaq story is one of the greatest sports stories of all time. Being huge fans of both of them I always try to see things from both sides. Phil and Shaq got along great which probably made Kobe who was not good at interpersonal relationships feel isolated and he only further isolated himself with his selfish style of play. Shaq talked a lot of shit, no question about it. So did Phil and i don't think Shaq or Kobe had the maturity to deal with it all. Shaq, who's personality endears him to everyone, is always sure of winning a popularity contest and was not about to back down. Phil and he were of the understanding that it was his team. There is no question that he should've stayed in shape, but it's also clear that when Kobe stopped passing the ball, things started falling apart. Phil and Kobe were frosty because Kobe wanted to do things his way. The media perception came down way too hard on Kobe after Shaq got traded because truth be told Jerry Buss was to blame for that. But in hindsight one can see why. Think of the Lakers after Shaq was gone before Pau. They were trash so obviously Kobe still had some growing as a leader. I mean he had no pieces to work with but still he was not known as a great motivator. I think they both could've done things differently handled it better. I always thought Kobe was wrong for that article because it certainly wasn't going to make things better. I thought the Big Fella was very petty at times. But I understand both if you're The Man, you're going to fight for your territory if you're trying to be the Man, its the same thing.

Kobe was right in one of his last interviews about shaq when he said the lakers could have won more if shaq wasn't so lazy, after the first championship shaq became somewhat relaxed vs kobe who seemed always hungry for more, that's what you have to love about him if your a basketball fan, players like that don't come around that often, overall the lakers made the right choice in trading shaq for a lot of reasons, I just hated the fact most laker fans blamed him for it, at the end of the day if shaq was the leader he should have lead by example and been a better teammate to kobe.
Curly Que
Curly Que پیش 26 روز
Just imagine having that much fire in your heart. I would be complacent too if I finally won a ring. It takes a special breed of person to strive for more even after accomplishing so much. If the Lakers didn't fall apart around him, Kobe could have easily won 6 rings. He had the fire in his soul to get it done, but it just wasn't in the cards. It takes 15 players to win a championship, and if all 15 players had the heart that Kobe had, he would have been the GOAT.

It's clear that shaq was an oversized entitled boy in a dominant center's body. Look at him on NBA on TNT...the guy thinks his opinion is always fact. As great of a player(still underachieved) that he was.. he was a manipulator, immature, bully & unaccountable. That was weak & corny 4 him 2 do His physical talents overshadowed alotta character flaws as a human being. When things got tough, if he couldn't bully himself out of a situation then he sulked & whined. Kobe needed a player like kevin garnett...two caring workaholics who pulled no punches. They might've not 3peated but they would've won 3 champions together in a 10 yr span & they could enjoy each other's company.

I won’t speak on what’s facts or fiction here bc neither one of us know Shaq. But Shaq and Kobe were two very very opposite people with two very opposite lives. It was destined to clash. Shaq is a frat boy, the “fun guy” of the group, and extremely extroverted. He needed to know his teammates were cool with him and liked him so his mind was at ease on the court. He’s big on camaraderie. Kobe was the opposite. He didn’t care who was friends or who was enemies as long as everybody went out and killed on the court and got a W. He was always an outcast from the time he was young to the time he was acquired by the lakers. They were a vet team, young but still lots of vets on their squad. But he’s a 17 year old phenom busting their asses and basically in position to take their jobs. So ofc they are naturally spiteful. Also remember, Shaq did 2 years in college so he was 24 when him and Kobe Teamed up. Naturally his own youth+ kobe being 7 years younger and being who he was, was a recipe for disaster. The only thing that would’ve made them closer friends was if Shaq worked harder in the gym bc that was the only way him and Kobe could relate. So it makes sense why when kobe is shaq’s same age of when they met (24.. ironic right?), he’s demanding more from his teammates bc he took all their shit for years and got 3 chips while doing it but it could’ve been 4 had guys taken it more seriously. Fast forward end of the year it’s come to a head and Shaq is gone.

I’ve been a hard core Laker fan since the 80’s. I followed this feud in the media fanatically during the Shaq/Kobe era. I had always felt like it was Shaq’s over sensitive immature ego that was the reason the team was breaking up. It sucked to see him go, win one in Miami, stay petty and rapped about Kobe but, in the end, the realist got to shine the brightest and Shaq jumped around teams like the clown he was. RIP Mamba.

I mean I agree, but I think both of them were at fault were the dynasty breaking up. Obviously, Shaq for his ego of not accepting that he would have to pass his #1 option title down to Kobe and for being out of shape. Kobe had his faults, but it's unfortuate at the time he was the scapegoat because he wasn't the outgoing personality Shaq was. But at the end of day, Kobe's evolution as a player and person was remarkable and it made his career extremely special.

@Trenton Pearson I don't know about being the GOAT because I mistrust this kind of statement. It's like people who say "If Iverson was 6'6 he would be the GOAT". I don't believe that for one second but I do get the idea. Now, I don't think it was easy for Shaq to be in better shape. I think it's phenomenal that he didn't get injured more given his size and his weight. But deep down we agree that he could have done even more. Yet I believe Shaq can make a legit case as the second-best player ever. Very few people would say that because as this physically/brutal/dominant center, he's not very glamorous but the facts say otherwise. Now, being the GOAT and surpass Jordan would be much more demanding than that. Jordan did much more than winning 6 titles (virtually) in a row.

Shaq's lack of physical conditioning was going to hinder him no matter what. Shaq in his youth was as gifted genetically as LBJ but never took great care of himself and would come into camp out of shape every year. As he got older it started to take a toll on him. If Shaq had Kobe's work ethic they would have won 5 consecutive chips but I also wonder how long would Kobe have tolerated not being the man. I feel like that partnership was destined to end prematurely.

@Joe Jeffy when shaq was out due to an injury in 2002 I believe it stained his trust with Phil because Phil ran the team and offense through kobe and they where winning and when shaq returned Phil took the ball out of Kobe's hands and ran it through shaq, I guess kobe felt a little betrayed by Phil because he had improved his game and was more reliable in the 4th quarter and in the clutch and had no off switch unlike shaq who admitted he would slack off on nights because he knew kobe could get 50 or 60 points, I guess it was a trust thing that had to be repaired with kobe and Phil, I don't think it was all about the money

@STEPHANIE Williams Oh I completely agree that Shaq should've stayed in shape no argument there. But again that's a basketball issue. But from day one Kobe bristled at having any leadership. Shaq could've been in shape the whole time, Kobe would've wanted to do it his way. There's a reason Phil called him uncoachable. After all before Phil got there they had issues and that all had to do with Kobe's style of play. Bottom line neither were going to be happy playing the Pippen because they're both far too talented for that. As far as leadership goes, even Jim Gray said Shaq was galvanizing the troops and Kobe's focused on Kobe. Both were uncompromising mindsets which as winners and leaders you're supposed to. I was just saying that Kobe took it to a personal level which was uncalled for.

@Joe Jeffy you making it sound like Kobe's taking a page out of lebron's book (who's is well known for trading a lot of ex teammates), kobe had no control over Jerry's buss team, kobe doesn't write anyone's checks, that was all Jim buss, but I do believe kobe might have not been willing to play another season with shaq because of all the turmoil but you forget kobe was an free agent as well and in that sit down interview they did years ago kobe admitted he was willing to sign with the Chicago bulls, there was no guarantee he was coming back . Shaq and kobe's sit down interview on TNT admitted everything about that 2004 free agency

Man, it's really crazy what can go behind the scenes in the sports world. Kobe went through a lot with the Lakers, and also gave the fans his heart and soul with all that pain. RIP Legend !

@Zeddie Perry, IV irpost.info/face/fy-lm-h-y/mq_HzJGtp6DTk3c.html If you want to go straight to the abuse part, start around 15 minutes into the video. Managed to find it.

@Zeddie Perry, IV I'm aware of that. I tried finding that particular video, but it didn't show up. But hey if I find it, I'll link it. That video I send to you was one of the videos I happened to see concerning his death.

@Umer Mahmood OK I watched that video and I didn't here anything about him getting molested by one of his family members

@Zeddie Perry, IV And there is always a chance I can be wrong. There is always a possibility of having friends turn their backs on you because of your success and develop jealousy and even want to hurt you. Crabs in a bucket mindset. That can apply to Kobe too. There was that cartoon that showed Kobe would die in a helicopter crash a few years back. I'm a skeptic by nature, and I tend to question everything I read and see. Sometimes the truth is even stranger than fiction.

@Zeddie Perry, IV Of course they can. Some people have a genuine connection to the spiritual realm, and some scam the viewer. I can't believe I have to tell you this again. Take everything with a grain of salt, and believe nothing till you see genuine proof. Even what you see on the news. Even the news telling the viewer there was a helicopter crash sounds iffy. You can't fit 9 people into that.

Kobe never won without Phil Jackson.. When Phil left the Lakers were trash...Kobe wanted to win HIS way. That’s not the same as wanting to win

Think you mean Shaq. Kobe took a backseat to Shaq. Listen to his stories. He intentionally didn't score the last bucket to set the 40-point streak record just so Shaq wouldn't feel bad and start to tank games. Shaq's a petty human and the fact that he's alive and Kobe's not is a disgrace.

@Kyle Mitchell Scottie damn bear went to back to he Finals when he was in Portland..... There’s probably not another coach in the NBA besides Popovich was that Kobe would have won rings with based on his style of play...
